The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

At a festive holiday party, Clara receives a Nutcracker that magically turns into a prince.  He transports her from the mouse battlefield through a magical snowstorm to the Kingdom of the Sweets.  There the Sugar Plum Fairy invites her to stay and be entertained by the sweets from countries around the world.

In the end Clara wakes from the wonderful dream to find her Nutcracker. But was it really a dream?

This holiday favorite comes to life Thanksgiving weekend at the Midland Theatre in Newark.

  • Special Guest Artists Jennifer Fowler and Bobby Wesner

COYB Bravo! Spring Performance

In previous years, nearly 60 youth dancers from studios across Licking, Knox, Fairfield, Muskingham, Perry and Coshocton counties have auditioned, rehearsed and participated in COYB spring performances. “We are thrilled to bring youth talent from our counties into the spotlight again this year,” shares Denise Crews, President of The Central Ohio Youth Ballet.  “The annual Nutcracker performance offers area youth dancers an opportunity to learn more about the art of performance and the arts overall, while also providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform onstage at The Midland Theatre.  It’s an important initiative.”

Outreach Programs

Central Ohio Youth Ballet takes to the road with our performing dancers.  Dance isn’t just for the Theater.  Our Outreach Programs bring dance to the community through performances and demonstration:

  • Crack the Nut Workshop at the Midland Theatre
  • Outreach Programs can be tailored to meet requirements for Girl Scout, Campfire Girls and Four H projects
  • For more information call COYB

The Outreach Program is designed to bring dance to the community through performances, demonstrations and workshops. Ranging from school children to adults, over 1000 people were exposed to the world of dance through COYB each year.

Intern Program

Intern ProgramNot all our youth are on the stage.  The intern program allows young people to gain experience in the technical aspects of dance production by working with professionals and adult volunteers. Even young people that don’t dance have a place at COYB through the intern program.  We match interested workers with our production staff to let them experience the back stage aspects of ballet and theater.  Our interns do everything from stage, lights, sound, costumes and production to make us truly a youth program

  • Open to students 7-12 grades in the central Ohio area
  • Internships available in sound, light, stage, acting, costume and production.
  • Contact us for more information.
